I've decided that I want to do a demon-version of my cat, with horns.
This is so totally happening.

I FINISHED THESE ON TIME
So my book covers are due tomorrow and I actually got them done on time. I'm super happy.
Here's the final for Bone Key:
And here's the ones for Nevermore. I didn't take WIP pics of that one because I actually managed to do it all in one day. And it was awesome.
^ Forgot the word that was under the flash glare.
^ Didn't like the placement of the barcode.
^ Final.

Bone Key WIP
February 27, 2014
So I spent a decent amount of time comparing all of the Supernatural books in my possession to make sure that they were the same size and so that I would be able to replicate a book cover to be as authentic as possible.

Figuring out where the rulers needed to be placed probably took the longest. This one is inspired by the Feathers book from my previous post.

It took forever and a day to get the little summary of the book justified, but I did it. Yay!
Then I found a neat little key with a skull on it, so I re-created that and stuck it in there.
Found a good barcode because paperback books have those. And they have to be taken into consideration when designing book covers. You don't want to like mess up and not leave room for the barcode and then have your design get covered up. That's no fun.
So that ^ was gonna be the last of it, but I didn't like the stale feeling I was getting from looking at it. So I added wisps!
And a texture because white sucks. This isn't done yet. I need to do a little more to the spine and then I'll be done.

Inspiration and Plan for Book Covers
I've always loved simple book covers (although covers with photos of hot men work just as fine), so I thought that I would do a set for my favorite book series. Here are some simple cover designs that I pulled from the interwebs of doom - by the way, it's really hard to type with a cat sprawled on the keyboard and wrists.
I really do enjoy the overall simplicity of all three of these, the negative space, the placing of the words, etc.
Here are all of the book covers for my favorite series, and depending on how quickly I get through the first four, I might do them all.

A Ghost in my Town
I've been working on adding in clouds and fog (not using the Digital Tutorials videos because ain't nobody got time fo' dat).
Pretty much all I have left to do is the river, the light source, and color correction. So. Yeah.
